DC Comics Cancels Bisexual “Tim Drake: Robin” Series After Tenth Issue
DC Comics has cancelled the comic series Tim Drake: Robin after its tenth issue, which was launched in September last year. The series, written by Meghan Fitzmartin, aimed to bring diversity to comics by presenting Tim Drake, also known as Robin in the DC Comics Universe, as a gay/bisexual man.
However, the decision to change the sexuality of an established character with a history of girlfriends based on non-canon events has been criticized by many readers. Despite DC’s initial high hopes for the series, the team’s decision to modify the character’s sexuality was met with mixed reactions.
Fitzmartin confirmed the cancellation of the series on Twitter, expressing her privilege in writing Tim Drake’s story and his evolution into a hero who fights for self-acceptance, in addition to crime. Fitzmartin encouraged her fans to tell their own stories and emphasised the power of art to change people’s hearts and minds.
The final issue of Tim Drake: Robin is set to be released on June 23 and will feature artwork by Nikola Čižmešija, as well as two variant covers by Gleb Melnikov and Travis Moore.
