Charlie Carver To Headline At Outfest’s Virtual Fundraiser
Charlie Carver is set to headline at the first ever virtual fundraiser of LGBTIQA arts, media and entertainment organisation, Outfest, the Advocate reports.
Titled, ‘Twas The Night Before Give-mas, the variety benefit show will be hosted by journalist Mark Malkin and live-streamed on Facebook and YouTube from 6pm 30 November (Pacific Time USA).
The show will feature live music, drag performances and comedy sketches by Charlie Carver, Margaret Cho, Wilson Cruz, Cheyenne Jackson, Janaya Future Khan, Candis Cayne, Steven Canals and more.
Damien Navarro, Outfest’s executive director said the show was also a celebration of the LGBTIQA community’s creativity.
“In a year which so much is different, there is one thing that I’m hoping everybody can relate to: that is the incredible work of the artists and storytellers of our community,” said Navarro.
“Pairing this incredible talent roster with an event to support our programs and mission will help Outfest meet the many challenges we are facing during these unprecedented times,” Navarro continued. “With the difficult holiday season ahead, we hope that this event brings a much-needed smile and short escape from the struggles we are all facing daily.”
Proceeds from the 75-minute fundraising event will benefit the work of Outfest which, in addition to its annual LGBTQ+ film festivals, provides programs in education and film preservation. It will also help its new streaming service, Outfest Now.
Outfest was founded 40 years ago to encourage inclusion of the LGBTIQA community and to confront inaccurate portrayals of the community in the media and entertainment space.
