Get The App

The start-up app helps users get to know each other at local LGBT+ events, and has expanded from iPhone to Android ahead of Sydney Mardi Gras, 2020.

Events app Wyd is gearing up for Sydney Mardi Gras with a comprehensive guide to all the major LGBT+ parties and events this festive season. The move comes after the app’s beta release to Android devices, following its launch on iPhone a year ago.

The app, originally created as a fast way to share up-coming plans with friends, has quickly taken off in the gay community by allowing users to mark whether or not they are friendly and open to meeting new people at the events they attend.

Founder, Daniel Berger

“People use this in the lead up to events to chat with and get to know a few more people who’ll be there, or to make more friends on the day itself,” explains the app’s founder, Daniel Berger, adding that. “It’s about going to an event and knowing who’ll be happy to start up a conversation or hang out, without any expectations around dating or the like.”

Users appreciate the diverse range of LGBT events available through the app that allows people to discover events away from the usual gay hangouts. The app includes everything from gay parties in Bondi and queer business networking nights to same-sex wedding expos and lesbian balls.

“We want to make Wyd the go-to app for gay and diverse people to see what’s on and connect with their communities,” Daniel says. “Right now, we’re working to make sure our coverage in all of Australia’s cities is as full as possible but, in the future, we’ll be focussing more on how we can serve the needs of LGBT people in regional areas as well.”
