The newest Wiggles cast members included Ethiopian-born Tsehay Hawkins, Indigenous ballerina Evie Ferris, Chinese-Australian Kelly Hamilton and… John Pearce from Justice Crew?!
According to Junkee, Pearce has both children and adults thrilled at the casting decision, though for very different reasons. Kids are loving seeing the new Wiggles members, but we’re loving that just beneath that purple skivvy, John is packing a bangin’ bod.
Pearce was one of the winners of Australia’s Got Talent in 2010 as part of the dance troupe, Justice Crew which included his twin brother Len. The group went on to a launch a music career with hits such as Boom Boom and Que Sera. They were nominated for ARIA awards eight times.
The blue Wiggle, Anthony Field told ABC News that he would love to see the group diversify to include members from different backgrounds. Having been a part of the band for three decades, Field was looking to leave a legacy behind that he could be proud of. “When I hang up the skivvy I’d like to see someone from a different cultural background,” said Field.
Field told NCA NewsWire that the plans for new members were in the works for a while. “I looked around the world and I thought: we have to reflect our audience. Our audience is not just one culture, we want children to see a mirror of themselves,” reports News.com.
John and the other new Wiggles will debut on Fruit Salad TV, a YouTube exclusive show, on September 4.
