Tonight’s Australian Story, to air on ABC TV (Australia), will focus on the murdered gay man, Scott Johnson in 1988. It is almost four months since a man was charged with Scott’s murder.

Johnson’s death has been the subject of three coronial inquests. The first found that he had taken his own life, but subsequent investigations have revealed that he was murdered.

The episode looks at the Johnson family’s fight to find the killer.

At the time of his death in Sydney, there was a spate of gay hate crimes that saw dozens of gay men murdered or disappeared.

After tonight, the episode can be viewed on the ABC’s streaming service, iView.

In May 2020 a man was charged with Johnson’s murder after police alleged the pair met in a bar in Manly.
