Sydney Is Set For A Big Weekend Of Trans Community Support
If you are in Sydney this weekend, two major organisations are coming together for a significant community event. Equality Australia is partnering with ACON for Trans Evolution, a gathering that offers both connection and real-world assistance for trans and gender-diverse people. The free event takes place this Saturday, August 30, from 11 am.
Following recent law changes in New South Wales (NSW), this event will provide a free drop-in service to help people update their gender markers on official documents. Equality Australia’s own Dale Dawson, who is a registered Justice of the Peace (JP), will be available to assist. The Inner City Legal Centre (ICLC) will also be there to offer advice for anyone who needs information about applying for a fee waiver.
The event is part of ACON’s 40th-anniversary program. For four decades, ACON has been dedicated to improving the health and lives of LGBTQIA+ people. ‘Trans Evolution’ continues that work, creating a space to acknowledge community strength. Teddy Cook from Equality Australia is scheduled to speak, along with Chantell Martin, Graeme Head, and Jasmine Nightingale. Looking for a way to connect and show support? This is a great opportunity.
For those interested in the wider discussion around trans rights, another important event is happening on Friday, September 5. Monash University’s Professor Paula Gerber will be joined by Sex Discrimination Commissioner Anna Cody at Gleebooks. They will be discussing the details of the book Sex, Gender & Identity: Trans Rights in Australia, providing valuable insights into the current state of equality.
