It’s Likely We’ll Get To See A Gay Beauty And The Beast Spin-Off With Luke Evans!

Hollywood favourite Luke Evans has been everywhere of late and we couldn’t be happier about that. Whether it’s starring in the new Pinocchio film or posting Instagram content with his potential new beau Frans Tomas, Evans has been at the forefront of our interest for quite some time.

In a new interview, Evans discusses his future projects and says he’s keen to do a Beauty And The Beast spin-off series with co-star Josh Gad, reports Entertainment Weekly.

“IT’S JUST ON HOLD. IT IS GONNA HAPPEN”

For those who need a refresher on Disney’s 2017 live-action Beauty And The Beast, the movie cast Luke Evans as the hot but dumb hunter Gaston with Josh Gad playing dutiful sidekick LeFou. The live-action film hinted at LeFou’s feelings for the muscly Gaston, which was a modern twist on the characters’ dynamic.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney announced a spin-off project for their hit movie Beauty And The Beast which would have centred on Gaston and LeFou with Rita Ora and Briana Middleton joining the cast. However, news came in 2022 that Disney Plus has delayed the series indefinitely with plans to return to it at a later date.

Evans spoke with Entertainment Weekly about his eagerness to return to the project. “We came up with the idea of, what would it be like to delve into the past of Gaston and LeFou and how they met and who they were and why they became the people that we meet in the movie that we all know and love,” he says.

“We want to honour these characters with the best story we can possibly deliver. It’s just on hold. It is gonna happen. We’re very excited about it. At some point in the near future, it will happen.”

Not that we needed a reason to want to see Luke Evans as Gaston again, but the prequel creator Josh Gad promises to make the show focus on LGBTQIA+ elements. Gad says he feels his portrayal of LeFou as a gay man didn’t go as far as it should have, reports Variety.

“We didn’t go far enough to say, ‘Look how brave we are.’ My regret in what happened is that it became ‘Disney’s first explicitly gay moment’ and it was never intended to be that,” he says. “It was never intended to be a moment that we should laud ourselves for, because frankly, I don’t think we did justice to what a real gay character in a Disney film should be.”

When we eventually get to see Evans return as Gaston, we’re excited to see him ramp up the sexual tensions and potentially play a more complex side of the otherwise mono-dimensional character.

And now, here are some gratuitously added shots just because he’s sexy!
