GOP Candidate’s Campaign In Jeopardy Over Alleged Gay Sex Tape

Republican hopeful Peter Schmidt won the GOP primary in the run for an assembly seat in Wisconsin. Schmidt has taken anti-LGBTQIA+ stances in the past. But now there is, allegedly, a sex tape in which he gives oral sex to another man. On top of that, previous incidences of alleged violent misdemeanours have also come to light, reports Star Observer.

THE MATH ISN’T ADDING UP QUITE RIGHT

The candidates for Wisconsin Assembly District 6 are Republican Peter Schmidt and Democrat William J. Switalla. Schmidt won his primary by 63 votes, but only days after his win, his history of criminal charges were made public, leading the GOP to censure him, reports Green Bay Press Gazette.

The charges include Schmidt pleading no contest to criminal trespassing and disorderly conduct, Class A and Class B misdemeanours. Theses charges were filed after Schmidt allegedly tried to strangle one of the workers on his dairy farm in 2019.

If these revelations weren’t enough, it has come to light that Schmidt filed a police report after allegedly being extorted for money with a video showing him performing oral sex on another man, reports Star Observer. The report alleges that a man tried to blackmail USD50,000 out of Schmidt to keep the video from being released.

The politician admitted that he has struggled with his sexuality in the past despite previous claims he is a “strong conservative and Christian”. In light of the sex tape allegation, Schmidt now says that nobody should be persecuted for their sexual orientation. To make matters more confusing, OnlySky obtained a copy of the report where Schmidt claims he had been in a relationship with the man in the sex tape and there had been other sexual encounters.

This reported extortion attempt is a violation of privacy and is inexcusable. The results, however, paint a somewhat murkier image; one of a conservative politician who hasn’t quite landed on whether he backs his party’s anti-LGBTQIA+ policies or not.

According to WisPolitics, Schmidt went on record as saying, “I’m a strong conservative and Christian, but there was a brief moment I struggled with my sexuality. No one should be persecuted or smeared for their personal orientation.” This is a stark contrast to the stance of the Republican Party – the same party that wouldn’t see “multiple sexual encounters” as a brief moment of struggle.

Funnily enough, Schmidt would not be the first Republican to find himself embroiled in a gay sex act scandal. In May, 2022, Representative Madison Cawthorn (known for being anti-LGBTQIA+) had a video released showing him naked and humping a male friend on a bed. For a party that’s deeply anti-gay, a definite pattern appears to be forming.
