Disappointed Eurovision fans have been thrown a lifeline after the competition was cancelled due to the Coronavirus pandemic with Eurovision 2020: Big Night In! to be aired on Australia’s SBS Saturday, 16 May.
The television event urges Eurovision fans to vote for their favourite artist who would’ve competed in 2020 online up until 3 May. Eurovision 2020: Big Night In! will be part of a week-long celebration of Eurovision running from 10 to 17 May on SBS.
The show will be hosted by Australian comedian, Joel Creasey and TV personality, Myf Warhurst who are long-time fans and hosts of SBS’s Eurovision coverage.
“We can’t wait to see who your favourite acts are, Australia. Will it be one of the bookies favourites – Daði And Gagnamagnið from Iceland, Victoria from Bulgaria or The Roop from Lithuania? Or will our love of kitsch see Russia’s Little Big take the virtual crown? Let’s come together and celebrate our passion for music and make this an unforgettable moment in Eurovision history!” Warhurst said.
When asked about the week-long celebration, Creasey thanked SBS.
“Thank you to SBS for putting together a whole week of festivities to keep us entertained while we’re spending more time at home. I thought I was going to have to play Sound Of Silence on repeat. Join us and a bunch of big names with nothing else to do,” Creasey said.
“Eurovision 2020: Big Night In! is going to be bigger than a big night out, but won’t break the bank and you’ll still feel good about your decision the next day (well, hopefully!),” Creasey said.
On Sunday 10 May, SBS VICELAND will air Road To Eurovision. A special filmed in the Netherlands that celebrates 64 years of the competition and brings together 22 past winners to perform their biggest hits including names like Sergey Lazarev, Dana International, Netta and Johnny Logan.
Monday 11 May to Friday will be an exploration of Australia’s Eurovision history from 2015 when the country first entered the competition.
