Delta Goodrem To “Eclipse” The Competition At Eurovision 2026

The long-speculated rumour is finally confirmed: Australia’s home-grown pop princess and long-time LGBTQIA+ ally, Delta Goodrem, will represent Australia at the 70th Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna this May.

After years of being the fan-favourite in every poll, and this year whole-heartedly endorsed by other Eurovision darling Dami Im, Delta is finally stepping onto the world’s most fabulous stage. This isn’t just a strategic move for SBS, the broadcast partner in Australia; it’s a homecoming for an artist whose career has been intertwined with the queer community since Born To Try was released in 2002.

While some may call this a “safe choice”, Delta represents a connection to a golden era of Australian pop. She has toured with Eurovision alumni Celine Dion and the late Olivia Newton-John (citing them both as inspirations), and her recent performance at Mighty Hoopla in Sydney proved she still has the “main character” energy required to win over a European audience. Before taking the stage, Delta posed for selfies with fans and winked at the camera before saying, “I’m a gay icon!”

Delta will perform her latest song, Eclipse, which dropped alongside the announcement. According to the official press release, the track is a “metaphor for clarity, alignment, and stepping fully into your purpose”.

Musically, Eclipse is pure Eurovision drama. It begins with Delta’s signature, delicate piano motifs, then builds into a sweeping, cinematic production that culminates in a powerhouse vocal crescendo. And don’t we love a key change at Eurovision!

The music video, filmed in the Newcastle sand dunes, features Delta surrounded by mirrored plinths, a visual feast that shows off a part of Australia that European audiences may not have associated with our country before. Previous Eurovision stars Voyager also showed off unseen gems of Western Australia in their music video for Promise.

SBS Head of Entertainment Emily Griggs noted that for the 70th anniversary, they wanted “one of Australia’s most iconic artists” to match the scale of the milestone.

“I always want to do Australia proud,” Delta said. “I have a very patriotic heart. I’ll do my best, of course. I’m very excited to see all the other artists and just do my very best.”

Australia is heading to Vienna with one of our brightest stars!

Semi-Finals: Tuesday 12 May and Thursday 14 May 2026.
Grand Final: Saturday 16 May 2026.
SBS and SBS On Demand will air the event live (early mornings) and in prime time from Wednesday 13 May to Sunday 17 May.
