Charlie Sheen Discusses Being Bisexual And HIV+ In New Book And TV Series

Charlie Sheen in Hot Shots! Part Deux (20th Century Fox)

Charlie Sheen is ready to talk. The actor is setting the record straight on his own terms in a new memoir, The Book Of Sheen, and a revealing Netflix documentary series, aka Charlie Sheen. The projects see him candidly discussing his life, including his sexual encounters with men and his journey with HIV.

A liberating new chapter.

For the first time, Sheen is publicly exploring a part of his life that has long been the subject of speculation. Why open up now? In the documentary, Sheen describes the experience of finally sharing his story as:

“Liberating. It’s f—ing liberating… [to] just talk about stuff.”

It’s a move that sees the star taking control of his own narrative after decades in the public eye. At DNA, we know the power that comes from telling your own truth.

From party headlines to an open book…

The actor connects his sexual experimentation with men to a period of heavy drug use. “That’s what started it,” Sheen said, reflecting on how his use of crack cocaine led him to explore his sexuality. While acknowledging the past, he seems ready to own every part of his story, stating,

“Some of it was weird. A lot of it was f—ing fun, and life goes on.”

This newfound honesty offers a raw look into the complexities of a life lived under intense scrutiny.

Setting the record straight on HIV.

Sheen also revisits his diagnosis with HIV, which he first disclosed publicly in 2015. After years of rumour and blackmail, his decision to come forward was a significant media moment. In his new projects, Sheen is firm on one crucial point, stating, “I do know for a fact that I never passed it on.” His original announcement created what researchers called the “Charlie Sheen effect,” a significant spike in online searches for information about HIV prevention and testing, proving that such public conversations can have a real-world impact.
