Beautiful Drag Story ‘Bowled Over’ To Air On SBS

Coming to Australia’s SBS is Bowled Over, which tells the story of three drag performers and a struggling bowling club in the part of Queensland better known for far-right politician, Pauline Hanson than its LGBTQIA+ culture.

Filmed over a year and revolving around a monthly drag show, Taboo, held at the North Ipswich Bowling Club, it follows the story of three drag performers, Crystal Heart, Wanda D’parke, and 12-year-old Candy Featherbottom, who share their major trials and triumphs.

Director Mandy Lake from production company Flick Chicks said the film showed the importance of family and friends.

“Our talented trio – along with their families and friends – will take us on both a hilarious and deeply moving journey down their respective frocky roads – their powerful stories reflecting the importance of family support, acceptance, and, as Logan aptly puts it: “Being who you wanna be. And need to be,” Lake said.

Bowled Over will air on SBS in Australia on 19 January at 8.40 pm. Follow the film on Facebook and Instagram.
