Hold tight, the first look at Alexander Skarsgård’s anticipated gay biker film, Pillion, has finally dropped. It feels like ages since we first heard whispers about this one, and now we have an image and more details to really get the engines revving.

Described as a ‘kinky queer romance’, the film follows a man who becomes a 24/7 submissive for a handsome leader of a motorbike club. pic.twitter.com/ZqIm6lNnbi
Meet Ray The Biker And Colin The Newcomer
The film pairs the towering Skarsgård as Ray with Harry Melling as Colin. We have seen the first image, showing Melling gazing at Skarsgård, both looking rugged in classic leather biker jackets. According to the official description, Skarsgård’s Ray is the “impossibly handsome leader of a motorbike club”.
Melling’s Colin starts as a “weedy wallflower letting life pass him by”. Things change drastically when Ray takes Colin on as his “submissive”. Ray apparently pulls Colin from his dull suburban existence straight into a “community of kinky, queer bikers”, guiding him through all sorts of firsts.
From Hogwarts To Handlebars For Melling?
Many will recognise Harry Melling instantly from his days playing Dudley Dursley in the Harry Potter series, or more recently showing his range opposite Anya Taylor Joy in The Queen’s Gambit. Alexander Skarsgård, of course, is well known for unforgettable television roles in shows like True Blood, Succession, and for playing Nicole Kidman’s complicated and dangerous husband in Big Little Lies.
Adding to the anticipation, Pillion comes from Element Pictures, the production house behind the much loved Sally Rooney adaptation Normal People and the Oscar winning Poor Things. That is some serious pedigree.
Fun Filthy Romance Or Something Deeper?
Initial descriptions called Pillion a “fun and filthy romance with heart” which certainly grabbed our attention. But the official plot details suggest there is more going on beneath the leather.
The synopsis digs into Colin’s experience, posing questions about his transformation: “Has he found his calling, or simply swapped one form of suffocation for another?” It hints that the film explores whether this intense new world is truly liberation or just a different kind of cage.
Alexander Skarsgård Is No Stranger To Queer Roles
This project isn’t Alexander Skarsgård’s first exploration of characters outside the heterosexual norm. He previously played a gay character in the mockumentary Beyond The Pole and memorably portrayed the seductive pansexual vampire Eric Northman in True Blood.
Many fans fondly remember Eric’s complicated relationships. Reflecting on playing Eric and filming intimate queer scenes for the show, Skarsgård told Pride Source back in 2023 that it was “just one of the most profound experiences ever. Just liberating.”
Directed by Harry Lighton, Pillion is slated to premiere at the upcoming 78th Cannes Film Festival. At DNA, we are definitely keen to see how Ray and Colin’s intense, kinky, and potentially heartfelt story unfolds on the big screen. Will it deliver on that “fun and filthy” promise while exploring deeper themes? We will certainly be watching for more updates.
