For over 15 years, Rob Kearney, dubbed The World’s Strongest Gay, has shattered stereotypes. The Massachusetts native’s incredible physical prowess, lifting cars and sandbags, was matched by an unwavering mental fortitude. Kearney’s journey inspired the LGBTQIA+ community, proving dreams can be achieved while defying social norms.

A Triumphant Farewell at World’s Strongest Man

The strongman’s retirement was a triumphant moment. At the 2024 World’s Strongest Man event in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, he recorded the fastest car walk time, his rainbow beard shining bright – a personal best and a fitting farewell.

“Well that’s it: the end of my career. It’s still really weird to say, but really fortunate I went out on the best event of my life.”

Rob was supported by his husband, Joey: “None of this would have been possible without your love, enthusiasm, and commitment to me. I can’t thank you enough for everything you have done for me.”

Kearney’s journey wasn’t just about physical strength; it was about using his platform to promote LGBTQIA+ visibility and representation in underrepresented sports like strength athletics.

“It kind of put me into the spotlight in a different way that I didn’t expect but was also excited to take on that challenge of really using my voice as a platform for LGBTQ+ visibility and underrepresented sports, like strength athletics.”

A Rainbow-Bearded Symbol of Pride

After his wedding, the strongman looked for ways to further highlight his identity. The perfect opportunity came at the 2019 World’s Strongest Man event in Florida, where he proudly sported a rainbow beard.
