We Need To Talk About Pet Shop Boys’ Single “Loneliness”
Pet Shop Boys are making moves in 2024 including the announcement of an upcoming album titled Nonetheless. To mark the occasion, the boys released a new single called Loneliness, which has arrived with a sultry music video featuring a ton of hot guys.
“Each track tells a story…”
The synth-pop duo of Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe have been active in the industry since their debut album Please in 1986. Showing no signs of slowing down, they released two albums in 2021 (My Beautiful Laundrette and Discovery which is a remastered release from 1994).
Their upcoming album Nonetheless will be their 15th studio album and sees the duo team up with producer James Ford. Pet Shop Boys say they’re excited to introduce new elements to their music and have each track on this album stand as its own narrative.

“We wanted this album to be a celebration of the unique and diverse emotions that make us human,” they explain in a press release. “From the more dance-orientated tracks to the raw poignancy of the introspective ballads, with their beautiful string arrangements, each track tells a story and contributes to the overall narrative of the album.”
Their first single release, Loneliness, is a dance-track and the music video helps to paint a rich story. We open on a factory in a small town and follow one man’s lifestyle there (played by Brennan Aldred). He flirts with women, works in the mill, exercises with other guys and cruises frequently with other closeted men.
The lyrics summarise what Pet Shop Boys mean to convey:
Wherever you go, you take yourself with you
There’s nowhere you can hide
From the loneliness that’s haunting your life
The sense of wounded pride
Everybody needs time to think
Nobody can live without love
Paired with a cinematically shot music video directed by Alasdair McLellan, and oodles of hunky actors, it’s definitely worth a listen and a watch!
