“These Gays, They’re Trying To Murder Me!” The White Lotus Becomes A Club Hit!
For the uninitiated, HBO’s The White Lotus is a very dark comedy anthology following the guests and staff of different White Lotus hotels around the world. Jennifer Coolidge’s character Tanya has been a gay fan favourite from the start. Now, both Coolidge and the series’ opening theme track have become hits on the dancefloor thanks to DJs like Dan Murphy, who have sampled and mashed-up audio from the series.

Each The White Lotus episode begins with a lengthy opening title sequence and an eery, enigmatic soundtrack. Social media was abuzz when season 2 dropped and a slightly updated version of the title theme debuted.
In a twist everybody saw coming, Jennifer Coolidge used The White Lotus as the perfect diving board to launch her back into gay icon status and is receiving all the appreciation and love from the Gays™ and in season 2 she served up the most meme-able line ever: “Please! These gays, they’re trying to murder me.” Since then, gay Twitter exploded using the expression as the perfect meme and sarcastic reaction.
Thanks to the musical stylings of DJ Dan Murphy, we have an actual mashup featuring some of the best gay memes of 2023 thus far including Jennifer Coolidge’s iconic “these gays are trying to murder me” line as well as Lady Gaga’s “bus, club, another club, another club, plane, next place” all featured over The White Lotus season two opening song.
