The Spider-Man movie franchise has been a smash hit since Tobey Maguire donned the iconic blue and red suit in the 2002 Spider-Man. Since then we’ve seen two revivals of the franchise with Andrew Garfield and, most recently, Tom Holland.

The first trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home has dropped and fans have already set to task identifying the abundant teasers that are littered throughout the short clip, reports ABC News. Reprising the role as the main web-swinging superhero is Tom Holland, starring alongside Benedict Cumberbatch playing Doctor Strange. The film is set to be released on December 17.

Since Marvel Studios won back the rights to its characters, they have been carefully building up their cinematic universe with an abundant amount of crossovers and Avengers films to set up future storylines. As Marvel enters Phase Four, fans aren’t too shocked to see Doctor Strange and Spider-Man making an appearance together in this trailer.

The real shock, however, is the unexpected appearance of Alfred Molina who played Doc Ock, a villain from the original Spider-Man trilogy starring Maguire. With all of the potential that the multi-verse creates, fan-theories have been flying around that we could see Holland, Maguire and Garfield play Spider-Man alongside each other in a film one day, reports ABC News.

What fans can be sure of is that Holland will return for this film alongside Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange, Zendaya as MJ, Jacob Batalon as Ned with Marisa Tomei as Aunt May. They can also be certain that Molina will reprise the role of Doc Ock. Both Jamie Foxx and Willam Defoe are listed as part of the cast so the chances that they will reprise their roles as Electro and Green Goblin from previous franchises are also a major possibility.

According to Screen Rant, the disputes between Sony and Marvel Studios threatened an end to Holland’s Spider-Man franchise, although new contract agreements have allowed for two more films to be made the first of which being No Way Home.

Tom Holland is best-known for Marvel’s Spider-Man, but he has since performed in films such as Netflix’s The Devil All The Time, Cherry and Chaos Walking.
