Gay Legends Ian McKellen And Alan Cumming Make Marvel Comeback In “Avengers: Doomsday”

Ian McKellen And Alan Cumming in X-Men Series (Marvel).

Blue skin, magnetic powers, and gay icons!

The Marvel universe is about to get a fabulous injection of star power that has us reaching for our superhero undies in excitement. Avengers: Doomsday isn’t just assembling heroes, it’s orchestrating something of a gay reunion.

Gay Screen Icons Return to Marvel Universe

Alan Cumming and Sir Ian McKellen are coming back to the Marvel world. Cumming will once more play the blue-skinned teleporter Nightcrawler, while McKellen returns as the powerful Magneto.

These two openly gay actors defined these roles in the early 2000s. Their return marks a key moment for the Marvel franchise as it brings together the X-Men and Avengers worlds.

“I was thrilled to revisit Nightcrawler in this new chapter of the X-Men universe,” Cumming stated. “It’s an honour to be part of such an important and exciting film.”

Sir Ian McKellen also shared his thoughts: “There’s something so special about revisiting Magneto. I’m excited to bring this character back to life in new and surprising ways.”

More X-Men Stars Join the Cast

The gay icons aren’t the only ones returning. Patrick Stewart will again play Professor X, continuing his role. Rebecca Romijn returns as shape-shifting Mystique, bringing back her blue-skinned character that fans loved in the first trilogy.

Kelsey Grammer’s Beast, James Marsden’s Cyclops, and Channing Tatum’s Gambit will all join the cast. Each actor brings their own style to this huge team-up film.

In a twist that has fans talking, Robert Downey Jr. is returning to Marvel. But he won’t play Iron Man this time. Instead, he takes on the role of Doctor Doom, the main villain. His wit and charm will now fuel one of Marvel’s greatest bad guys.

Who’s Missing from the Line-up?

Some big names aren’t on the cast list yet. Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel, Elisabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch, and Tom Holland’s Spider-Man haven’t been announced for the film.

Are they sitting this one out or will Marvel surprise us with more cast reveals later?

Avengers: Doomsday will hit theaters on May 1, 2026. Before that, fans can look forward to Thunderbolts on May 2 with Florence Pugh, and Fantastic Four: First Steps starring Pedro Pascal on July 25.
