Texas Drag Brunch Defended From Alt-Right Protestors By Group Of Volunteers

A Texas drag brunch event called Barrels And Babes was protested on Sunday, August 28 by alt-right extremists armed with guns. A group of volunteers came together to help defend the drag brunch and were armed with AR-15 assault rifles; the two opposing sides engaged in a heated exchange that is now online, reports Advocate.

NO SURPRISE THIS WAS IN TEXAS

The goal of the alt-right, anti-trans protestors was to intimidate attendees at the drag brunch held at the Anderson Distillery And Grill. According to a now-viral Twitter thread posted by journalist Steven Monacelli, the protestors were armed with assault rifles and bats that had been wrapped in barbed wire.

Thankfully, the group of supporters that showed up to defend the drag brunch outnumbered the anti-LGBTQIA+ aggressors but their goal of intimidation was achieved. In Texas, the firearm laws mean that it’s legal for anyone over the age of 21 to carry a gun either concealed or openly without a license. The tensions between the protestors and attendees could have been devastatingly escalated and it’s fortunate that both parties walked away without significant harm being done.

According to social media posts from Anderson Distillery And Grill, the owner’s son performs drag as Trisha Delish and hosted the event to welcome the community to an inclusive, family-friendly brunch. “It was never my intention to host an event that would result in controversy, hate and divisiveness. It is my intention to welcome people from ALL walks of life into Anderson Distillery And Grill,” says the business.

Despite the unfortunate presence of anti-LGBTQIA+ protestors and Christian fundamentalists, Anderson Distillery And Grill report having sold out the event and it being largely a success.
