Talk About Stripped-Back Vocals! “Broadway Bares: Pleasure Park” Takes Us On A Ride!
Who says the arts are stuffy? Broadway Bares has been an annual fundraising event for over 30 years and features New York City’s sexiest dancers and performers on stage baring their all for charity. This year, the show happened on June 19 at New York City’s Hammerstein Ballroom and was called Broadway Bares: Pleasure Park raising funds for the Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
Broadway Bares Returns To Deliver Scantily-Clad Musical Fun
Pleasure Park-goers perused and cruised through worlds of wizardly wonder, dynamic drag, sweet confections, animal queendom and a fantastical waterpark among other performances that gushed with LGBTQIA+ pride, reports Broadway Cares.
This year reportedly raised USD 1,887,014 to contribute to the Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. The lineup included a stellar cast of nearly 200 dancers representing 14 Broadway shows from this season including Aladdin; Bad Cinderella; A Beautiful Noise, The Neil Diamond Musical; Bob Fosse’s Dancin‘; Funny Girl; Hamilton; Harry Potter and the Cursed Child; Life Of Pi; The Lion King; MJ; Moulin Rouge! The Musical; Six; Some Like It Hot and Wicked.
The night ended in the traditional Broadway Bares Rotation which involves the performers getting up close and personal with the audience a lá Magic Mike to encourage more tips. That alone raised USD22,553. So it isn’t for the faint of heart but it is for the eager onlooker with deep pockets.
The night is a raucous spectacular of big fun and big booties, but it raises money for a good cause. What’s not to love?
