Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Trailer Includes Trans Rights Message
Sony’s latest trailer for the highly anticipated animated film, Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse, has fans excited about more than just the new plot. In one shot of the trailer, a “Protect Trans Kids” poster can be seen over the doorway of a character’s bedroom. Fans of the franchise were quick to celebrate the inclusion of this message.
The sequel to the hit Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse follows teenager Miles Morales (voiced by Shameik Moore) as he sets out on a multi-universe adventure. Along the way, Morales will encounter a variety of Spider-Man variants from different universes, including Spider-Man 2099, Spider-Punk, and Spider-Woman.
The trailer shows Morales trying to balance his family and social life with his secret life of crime-fighting, and after being visited by Gwen Stacy (Hailee Steinfeld), he finds himself in the Multiverse trying to prevent a catastrophic disaster. However, as he clashes with other Spider-People, Morales finds himself being pursued by the very forces he had come to the Multiverse to save.
The film is co-directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson, and is co-produced and co-written by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, alongside Marvel’s Dave Callahan. The star-studded voice cast includes Oscar Isaac as Spider-Man 2099, Daniel Kaluuya as Spider-Punk, Jason Schwartzman as “Spot”, Issa Rae as Spider-Woman, and Jake Johnson, Rachel Drach, Brian Tyree Henry, Luna Lauren Vélez, and Grace Lee, among others.
Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse will be released on June 2, 2023, covering only the first half of a two-part story. Part two, Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse, is scheduled for release on March 29, 2024.
