Say Good-Bi To Bisexual Erasure In 2023 – Netflix’s “Hard Feelings” Puts The B In LGBTQIA+
Netflix’s whacky new movie Hard Feelings addresses issues of teenage sexuality and sexual angst while delivering plenty of genital-based jokes and bisexual visibility, reports Instinct.
With the advent of Pride Month, we must remember the importance of every colour of the rainbow and keep pushing for representation for the whole LGBTQIA+ community.
Having a Hard time
The central driving plot of Hard Feelings is teenager Charly (played by Tobias Schäfer) waking up to find his penis can speak to him and is insatiable for warm, wet gratification, reports Instinct. Funnily enough, Charly’s childhood crush Paula (played by Cosima Henman) also finds that her vagina can speak to her as well.
The hijinks that ensue tell the usual tale of teenage angst and awkward sex-related situations, but the inclusion of bisexual couple Ziggy and Basti (portrayed by Maximilian Schneider and Leander Lesotho respectively) is very welcome. According to Instinct, the two reportedly exist in this school without ridicule or threat and their most note-worthy descriptors seem to be they both possess large penises.
The beauty behind this inclusion is that it seems small and yet the impact is major. Normalisation of bisexual identities is just as important as validating and protecting gay identities.
