Save A Horse And Ride These Cowboys! Pedro Pascal And Ethan Hawke In New Gay Western
The name on everybody’s lips right now is Pedro Pascal. Having starred in Game Of Thrones, The Last Of Us, The Mandalorian and Wonder Woman 1984, the seasoned actor has become the internet’s official daddy.
In a recently released statement, Academy Award-winning director Pedro Almodóvar announced that Pascal will join Ethan Hawke in the upcoming 30-minute short film Extraña Forma de Vida (Strange Way Of Life), reports Film Updates.
“BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN” BUT WITH MORE SEX
The film’s director Pedro Almodóvar is known for melodrama, boldness and irreverent humour. The plot summary offered for Strange Way Of Life says: “A man rides across the desert to Bitter Creek. He has come to visit Sheriff Jake. Twenty-five years ago, they worked as gunmen and they seem to be glad to meet up again, but the day after things take a different turn other than celebrating an old friendship,” reports Screen Daily.
Comparisons have been drawn between the short film and the gay film classic Brokeback Mountain starring Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal. In an older podcast episode of Empire, Almodóvar states that had he directed Brokeback Mountain there’d have been more sex and a more intimate look at the characters, which offers an interesting teaser for Strange Way Of Life.
Pascal will play the lead role as one of the cowboys, and interestingly it won’t be his first time playing a queer character. Although best known now for The Last Of Us and The Mandalorian, Pascal played the devilishly seductive bisexual Oberyn Martell in Game Of Thrones. Ethan Hawke, who has starred in films such as Training Day, Boyhood and Before Sunrise, will play our other cowboy lover.
Fans of Pedro Pascal and Ethan Hawke have taken to social media to express their excitement about the upcoming film. Many have praised the casting choices, noting that both actors have proven themselves to be talented and versatile performers.
Strange Way Of Life is set to release sometime in 2023 with filming underway. Pedro Pascal and Ethan Hawke will also be joined by Manu Rios, Jason Fernandez and Jose Condessa.
