Grammy Award-winning artist Sam Smith has released teasers and details for their upcoming fourth studio album Gloria. Smith’s lead single Unholy has sat at number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for weeks casting an optimistic prediction for the album, reports Q News.

“I AM GIVING YOU PART OF MY HEART AND SOUL”

Since bursting onto the music scene in 2014 with their debut album In The Lonely Hour, Sam Smith has managed a thriving career releasing everything from soulful ballads to pop hits. In 2019, Smith decided to open up about being non-binary and exploring that part of themself has made it easier to grapple with body image issues, reports BBC News.

In 2022, Smith released the first song from the Gloria album featuring transgender artist Kim Petras. Unholy quickly became a sensation on social media and on the mainstream charts with the song still sitting at number one on Billboard’s Hot 100 list at the time of writing.

Unholy is the first song to reach such heights recorded and written by a non-binary person with an openly trans artist, reports Q News. If the funky pop hit is a metric for Gloria, then it’s likely Smith’s album could be the first to reach number 1 by a non-binary artist.

In writing the album, Smith reveals that it felt like a renewal of their love of singing and a maturity of their style. “It feels like emotional, sexual and spiritual liberation. It was beautiful, with this album, to sing freely again,” he says. “Oddly, it feels like my first-ever record. And it feels like a coming of age.”

Gloria will be released on January 27 and is available now for pre-save or pre-order on their website here.
