Who’s ready for a classic enemies-to-lovers romp… but gay? (Spoilers)

Casey McQuiston’s Red, White And Royal Blue is among the queer YA readers’ must-reads and has been since it was published in 2019. The novel follows Alex Claremont-Diaz, the son of the first female US President, and his rival Prince Henry of England. The two begin as tense rivals forced to fake a friendship to avoid a scandal. Naturally, after spending time in forced proximity, their tensions ease and a passionate affair begins between the young lovers.

Prime Video announced they had picked up the rights to adapt Red, White And Royal Blue in 2019 and announced Taylor Zakhar Perez and Nicholas Galitzine are cast as Alex and Henry respectively. Filming commenced in London in June 2022 and wrapped in August that same year.

In a short video clip, Perez and Galitzine expressed their excitement at the completion of filming and subsequently caused an explosion of excitement on social media for the film release.

According to Nicholas Galitzine’s Instagram post above, the costumes are being kept a mystery until the release of the film so we only have snippets of the cast on production. Nonetheless, fans are excited to see the well-loved novel and characters come to life on-screen.

The movie, produced by Amazon Prime is directed by Matthew Lopez and features an impressive cast, including Uma Thurman, Stephen Fry and Polo Morin. With filming now complete, fans can look forward to the movie’s release on August 11.
