New Poll Explains Why Conservatives Are Fuming Over Bad Bunny

The announcement that Bad Bunny will headline the 2026 Super Bowl halftime show has certainly divided opinions. Conservative pundits and politicians have been very vocal in their disapproval. Now, a poll confirms what many already suspected: the outrage is coming almost entirely from one side of the political aisle.

The poll numbers speak for themselves.

The survey, from Quinnipiac University, highlights the sharp partisan divide. It found that 63 per cent of self-identified Republicans “disapproved” of the NFL’s decision. In contrast, 74 per cent of surveyed Democrats “approved” of the move. Support for the Puerto Rican rapper was also highest among Black and Hispanic respondents, as well as among adults aged 18 to 34.

So what is the actual problem?

The controversy seems to stem from two main points. Bad Bunny performs primarily in Spanish and, as New York Magazine noted, is “a loud and frequent critic of the Trump administration.” When asked about the choice, the former president called it “absolutely ridiculous” and “crazy,” adding that he “[doesn’t] know who [Bad Bunny] is.”

He has always shown up for the community.

This backlash overlooks why so many people are thrilled. Benito has consistently used his massive platform to support minority communities, including LGBTQIA+ people. In 2023, he received the GLAAD Vanguard Award for his work promoting equality. In his acceptance speech, he thanked the community for “embracing me, for loving me the way they do, and for looking up to me.”

He also famously shared a kiss with a male co-star in the 2023 film Cassandro and wore full drag in his Yo Perreo Sola music video. At the time, he told Rolling Stone it was a choice made “to show support to those who need it.” He clarified, “I may not be gay, but I’m a human who cares.” And let’s be honest, the endless stream of thirst traps doesn’t exactly hurt his case.

The alternative suggestion is certainly a choice.

Despite the noise, Bad Bunny isn’t going anywhere. He has the full backing of the NFL and Jay-Z, whose company Roc Nation co-produces the halftime show. “They love him,” Jay-Z recently told TMZ Sports. “Don’t let them fool you.”

His critics are yet to offer a compelling alternative. Speaker of the House Mike Johnson told reporters that “impressionable children” watch the game and suggested the slot go to Lee Greenwood, the 82-year-old singer of God Bless America. We know who we would rather watch.
