More Lesbians Are Buying Guns And MAGA Is Freaking Out

It seems the stereotype of the Subaru-driving vegetarian lesbian is getting an upgrade.

Reports show a significant surge in firearm ownership among lesbians. You might expect that Second Amendment enthusiasts would be thrilled that more Americans are exercising their rights. Instead, the MAGA crowd is having a meltdown.

The right to bear arms applies to everyone.

For years, the Pink Pistols and similar groups have advocated for LGBTQIA+ self-defence. But the current political climate in the United States has accelerated this trend. We are seeing more queer women purchasing firearms and attending safety courses. The motivation is clear. It is about personal safety in an increasingly hostile environment.

However, this shift has exposed a double standard. Conservative forums and social media platforms are buzzing with anxiety. The same people who chant “shall not be infringed” are suddenly uncomfortable. It appears that for some, gun rights are intended only for a specific demographic. When a lesbian couple protects their home, the narrative changes from “patriotism” to “threat”.

Hypocrisy is on full display.

The Queerty report highlights how MAGA supporters are struggling to reconcile their pro-gun stance with their anti-LGBTQIA+ bias. As writer Henry Giardina wrote, they are “sh*tting a brick” because their own logic has backed them into a corner. If you support unrestricted gun ownership, you have to support it for everyone. Even the people you disagree with politically.

The irony is thick. By aggressively pushing for loose gun laws, conservatives have made it easier for the very communities they target to arm themselves. Now that lesbians are taking advantage of those laws, the panic is palpable.

Safety comes first.

Buying a firearm is a serious decision. It requires training, responsibility, and a proper licence (depending on where you live). But for many, it is no longer about politics. It is about survival. If the world feels less safe, people will take steps to protect themselves.

As long as rhetoric against the LGBTQIA+ community remains high, self-defence will remain a priority. The right-wing may have to get used to the idea that gun owners look a lot more diverse than they used to.
