Luca Guadagnino’s Cannibal Film Is NOT About The Armie Hammer Allegations

Armie Hammer has been accused of a handful of pretty shocking things of late – one such accusation posits that the A-List actor allegedly enjoys cannibalism and violent sex. Call Me By Your Name director Luca Guadagnino wants to make it clear that his new film Bones And All about a young cannibal has no relation to Hammer, reports Out.

WHY ARE ALL THE CUTE ONES PROBLEMATIC?

The summer of 2017 was a different, and calmer, time. It was the year that Luca Guadagnino’s indie masterpiece Call Me By Your Name was released and we saw the soft side of Armie Hammer. Flash forward to 2022 and the public perception has changed quite significantly.

Both Timothee Chalamet and Armie Hammers’ careers blew up after the success of CMBYN and launched both actors into the mainstream consciousness. For Chalamet, this was his big break but for Hammer, he had been working in film for quite some time having appeared on The Social Network, Mirror Mirror and The Man From U.N.C.L.E to name a few.

Hammer comes from old money with his father and grandfather both marking significant success in the business sector. His leading man good looks and acting prowess made for a potent recipe for success. Rumours and allegations began proliferating in 2020 that accused Hammer of manipulation, violence and abuse.

These allegations came from a series of women who claimed to have been dating the actor. As the bizarre series of events unfolded, private messages were unveiled detailing intense pillow talk and violent fantasies on Hammer’s end – some even glorifying and sexualising cannibalism, reports Vanity Fair.

It is now two years since the scandal broke and Hammer has gone silent. A documentary called House Of Hammer is being made about the actor’s entire family and their alleged dark history, which is set to be released in September, 2022.

Changing course, Timothee Chalamet’s career has boomed since starring beside Hammer in CMBYN with the young actor having starred most recently in Dune. Partnering up again, Chalamet will star in Luca Guadagnino’s Bones And All film following a… young cannibal!

Speaking to Deadline, Guadagnino made it clear to audiences that this project has absolutely nothing to do with the Armie Hammer allegations. “This project – which was a popular book – had been in development for a number of years before Dave Kajganich brought it to me in 2020,” says Guadagnino.

“I responded immediately to these characters who are disenfranchised and living on the edge of society. Any link with anything else exists only in the realm of social media, with which I do not engage. The relationship between this kind of digital muckraking and our wish to make this movie is non-existent and it should be met with a shrug.”

Pointedly, Chalamet has remained silent during the Armie Hammer scandal opting instead to focus on his work and not get drawn into the musings of social media. This project, although unfortunately timed, promises to be another feather in Luca Guadagnino’s directorial cap.
