Heartstopper will close with a feature film, Heartstopper Forever, not a fourth season. Creator Alice Oseman wrote the screenplay, and longtime collaborator Wash Westmoreland (Still Alice) is directing. Stars Kit Connor and Joe Locke return as Nick and Charlie, and also serve as executive producers. The film wraps up a story that helped many viewers feel seen and soft-launched a new wave of teen romance on screen. Netflix announced the movie early this April and framed it as a “memorable, sophisticated, and atmospheric” send-off.

Oseman says the movie adapts Heartstopper Volume 6 and also draws from the Nick And Charlie novella. She added that there is a point where the film “slightly diverges from the events of volume six,” keeping familiar beats while taking a different path to the ending. That means fans can expect the couple’s looming university split to test their bond, with a few surprises on the way.

Production ran through June–July 2025 and officially wrapped on 27 July, with cast and crew posts marking the final day. Netflix has since set a 2026 streaming window. We’ll update the date the moment it’s confirmed.

Connor hinted at a spicier beat in his VMAN chat with Louis Partridge. “We shot quite a steamy scene yesterday,” he said, joking that he’s forever “throwing [himself] on the ground,” whether for rugby drills or the camera. It’s a playful nod to how Nick and Charlie’s intimacy has matured across the series.

Oseman told Netflix’s Tudum that the film explores first love under real-world pressure and is designed as a warm, reflective goodbye. The switch to a movie means no episode cliff-hangers and more focus on tone, pacing, and character beats across one sitting.

Can first loves go the distance when plans pull in different directions? The film sets out to answer that without losing the everyday magic fans cherish.
