Joe Locke Promises “Raunchier” And “Darker” Season 3 “Heartstopper”
In an interview with The Today Show, Heartstopper star Joe Locke talked about his slew of projects, including the filming of season 3 of the hit gay romance. He reveals that the series has evolved and delves deeper into mature issues as the characters develop.
What can we expect?
Locke has had a packed schedule of late with his Broadway debut in Sweeney Todd and his filming of the Marvel series Agatha: Darkhold Diaries. He’s also found time to give interviews about his much-loved role in Heartstopper.
“Every season of our show, we grow up with the characters more, and this season is definitely a bit raunchier; it’s still Heartstopper, but we also deal with some darker issues,” says Locke. In season 2, audiences were given a deeper look into some of the issues facing Charlie Spring – namely an unacknowledged eating disorder.
The main characters, Nick and Charlie, also begin to explore their relationship in a physical sense learning their own boundaries. The series has been praised by fans of Alice Oseman’s original comics for being a faithful adaption of the story.
Season 2 seemed to combine storylines from volume two and three of the comics. Indications from Oseman and the cast have created expectations that the third season may stray from the comic material which, by volume four, follows Nick and Charlie to college.
Locke has promised a darker and raunchier season which will certainly create an edgier watch for fans. A season 3 release date is yet to be announced, so we will keep our eyes peeled for more information as it’s released.
