Jeff Holcomb Really Just Said It! Florida Lawmaker Admits To Hating Gays

On Tuesday, May 2, Florida Republican Jeff Holcomb admitted during a speech on the House floor that he hates gay people. The admission came as Holcomb was backing Senate Bill 1382, which seeks to prohibit LGBTQIA+ individuals from serving in the military, reports HuffPost.

Did he really think that was going to fly unnoticed?

Holcomb’s remarks were met with audible gasps from the chamber as he recounted bombing a building in the Middle East in 2017 because they were killing homosexuals. “Our terrorist enemies hate homosexuals more than we do,” he says. “We bombed it like we never usually do.”

The comments have sparked outrage among members of the LGBTQIA+ community and their allies, with many accusing Holcomb of blatant discrimination and hate speech. The bill that Holcomb was advocating for would restrict “woke social engineering and experimentation” in the military; many have called it thinly veiled discrimination.

The sentiment against the representative turned negative almost immediately, with one politician seen in the background visibly gasping. The implication of his faux pas being that the US military and Republicans do hate gay people, but they hate terrorists who hate gay people just a little bit more.

Reactions have varied from surprise to fury

Advocates for LGBTQIA+ rights have condemned the proposed bill, which they say is an attack on the community’s right to serve their country. Holcomb’s comments have only added fuel to the fire, with many arguing that they are a clear example of the bigotry and intolerance that the bill seeks to enshrine into law, reports HuffPost.

As the debate over the bill continues, the LGBTQIA+ community and their supporters are vowing to fight back against any attempts to limit their rights and freedoms.
