Sebastian Croft is the star of How To Date Billy Walsh – the new rom-com offering advice for those entangled in love triangles. The Prime Video film has Croft playing Archie, a loveable yet conflicted teenager harbouring a secret crush on his childhood friend, Amelia (played by Charithra Chandran from Bridgerton).

Teenage love problems is Croft’s wheelhouse

How To Date Billy Walsh throws Archie and Amelia through a messy love triangle fraught with high school politics, food fights and young angst. Archie’s plans to confess his feelings for Amelia are thwarted when the charming newcomer Billy (Tanner Buchanan ) arrives on the scene, catching Amelia’s attention.

As Archie navigates the complexities of young love and schemes to thwart Amelia’s budding romance with Billy, Croft shares some insights into handling similar situations in real life.

“I think you have to be really honest and strong,” he advises. “Put your heart out there, say how you feel, and if it hurts, you move on. It’s better than being stuck in a not-knowing situation.”

Despite offering this sage advice, Croft admits that he might struggle to follow it himself. How To Date Billy Walsh may be a conventional heterosexual love story, but Croft, known for his role as Ben Hope in Heartstopper, has expressed his desire to play the lead in an LGBTQIA+ rom-com.

Though he won’t be reprising his role in the upcoming third season of Heartstopper, Croft, who identifies as queer, remains enthusiastic about the prospect of portraying LGBTQIA+ characters on screen.

Reflecting on his aspirations, Croft shares his dream role: “I was named after Sebastian Flyte in Brideshead Revisited and, obviously, that’s an iconic gay story, so it would probably be my dream part.” He has previously expressed interest in starring alongside Timothée Chalamet. Who wouldn’t?

How To Date Billy Walsh is now available for streaming on Prime Video, offering viewers a delightful dose of teenage romance and comedic mishaps.
