Georgia School Shooter Colt Gray Faced Cruel “Gay” Bullying, Dad Reveals
Colt Gray, the 14-year-old who opened fire at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia, on September 4, was bullied every day. His dad, Colin Gray, shared this in a phone call with authorities last year. Colt was physically harassed and called “gay” by his bullies.
“They kept pinching and touching him,” Colin, 54, said in the transcript. The bullying got worse over time. It was especially bad during Colt’s finals week.
Colin tried to help Colt find ways to cope, like joining the golf team. But the bullies kept taunting him. Colin didn’t want Colt to fight back. He knew the bullying was taking a toll on his son’s mental health.
The father and son bonded over activities like bow-hunting and learning gun safety for deer hunting. Colin introduced Colt to a pellet gun and a .22 rifle. He had no idea that this would be questioned later, after the tragedy.
Colt had been on the FBI’s radar before for threatening to shoot up a middle school on Discord. Now, he will be charged with murder as an adult. His father, Colin, is also facing charges for giving Colt access to guns, even though he knew his son was a threat to himself and others.
This terrible event shows how much damage bullying can do. It’s a reminder that we need to create safe spaces for all students, no matter how different they may seem.
