Gay Dad Penguins And Their Foster Baby To Star On World Penguin Day

In the heady times of the 2018 penguin breeding season, two male Gentoo penguins, Sphen and Magic, found love. Since their pairing they have successfully raised a foster chick in their inner-city Sea Life Sydney Aquarium home.
The parents have become international celebrities after successfully holding livestream events to offer up parental advice on life in the colony. Spheen, reportedly, has said it’s important to show the normality of life and that they’re just as capable as any pair to successfully raise a chick.
“We don’t care if we ruffle the feathers of those conservative religious types who say otherwise,” Spheen squawked.

Fast forward to this weekend, and the dads and baby along with their carers have decided to use their celebrity status to promote penguins on World Penguin Day. The pair, along with their colony will be live streaming from 9am (Sydney Australia) Saturday 25 April and will be showing off their morning routine followed by a question and answer session with their carers.
“Whether in attraction or via social media, we’re inundated with questions about the Sphengic family, so we’re very excited to take Sphengic fans from all around the world behind the scenes in our Macquarie Island inspired exhibit!” says Tish Hannan, Penguin Department Supervisor.
“Join our entire penguin colony for some morning enrichment activities, before Q&A with our team who are ready to answer all of your burning Sphengic questions!” Hannan added.

To ensure you don’t miss this adorable live stream, be sure to set your alarm and be following SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium on Facebook. Previous livestreams can be viewed at the aquarium’s website.
In the meantime, here’s Speen and Magic as they watch on at chick’s first swimming lesson.
