“Elite” Star Omar Ayuso Appreciation Post
With Netflix confirming that Elite’s sixth season will be airing on November 18, we thought it would be the perfect opportunity to gush over Omar Ayuso. The Spanish actor is openly gay, just one example among a large LGBTQIA+ cast, and is currently in a relationship with Alonso Diaz.
WITH A CHERUBIC FACE AND EYEBROWS TO DIE FOR
There are many reasons to love Omar Ayuso. There’s his good looks, but the 24-year-old actor is more than just a pretty face. Ayuso proudly identifies as gay and has been vocal about how proud he is to be part of a show that has launched cultural conversations.
In Elite, Omar plays a closeted Muslim student who begins a relationship with another boy. This storyline has actually caused the actor to receive homophobic backlash, but he believes this is to be expected when so many systems are being challenged in this modern age, reports Vanidad.
“I am super proud of my generation,” says Omar. “I think we are a generation that is deconstructing everything, that is changing things by changing the way we see them, name them and understand them.”
Despite his role in being a transgressive figure and beloved half of “Omander” (the ship name for Omar and Ander in Elite), Ayuso doesn’t enjoy the spotlight. He has spoken with El Pais saying, “I play a gay character and I am gay and I have no hesitation in saying so but I don’t like the imposition regarding visibility.”
“That if by the way, following my path, I can be a model for someone, great. But of course it is not my intention,” he says.
We are proud to say that Omar Ayuso will return to screens for season 6 of Elite on November 18.
