Dannii Minogue dropped in to Nova’s The Joel Creasey Show this week with a stack of stories, including the exact moment she called Simon Cowell out for forgetting One Direction’s names on The X Factor UK, an emotional update on sister Kylie Minogue’s upcoming Netflix documentary, and a surprise voice message from Kylie herself locking in her 2026 AFL Grand Final appearance.

The One Direction cheat sheet moment

Dannii told Joel she spent her X Factor UK run being teased by Simon Cowell “for fun” and eventually found her payback moment. “We are near the pointy end of the show, and he couldn’t remember their names without having a bit of paper under the desk, and I knew no one else would call him out on it,” Dannii said. “So I’m like, right, okay. I took the bit of paper, and I said, speak to the boys now, by name, on live TV.” Cue every gay person in the country cheering from their couch.

Kylie’s Netflix documentary is a family affair

Dannii also reflected on the work going into Kylie’s upcoming Netflix doc, which leans heavily on decades of Minogue family Super 8 footage. “Can I tell you how joyous and moving it’s been for the whole family to watch Kylie put this together,” Dannii said. “We didn’t even realise how many boxes from Super 8 films. So all the different types of cameras, finding the machines to then watch it and digitise it… we’re all in there because that’s our thing.”

Kylie crashed the show with an AFL Grand Final tease

Halfway through the interview, Joel played a voice message that had landed on his phone moments earlier. “It’s Kylie just checking in. I know you are with my sister today,” Kylie said. “I want to know everything that’s going on. What’s the latest greatest, what’s the goss? One other thing, Joel. AFL Grand Final, I’ll be there.” That puts Kylie officially at the 2026 AFL Grand Final, with a performance strongly implied.

Joel thanked Dannii for being “one of us”

The most touching exchange came when Joel, one of Australia’s best-known gay comedians, thanked Dannii for her impact on queer viewers. “It’s people like you that when little people like me are growing up and Dannii Minogue is saying, it’s fine and you’re okay and you’re one of us, you have no idea the effect that has on people,” Joel said. Dannii called it “mind blowing” to hear, then landed one of the interview’s funniest lines.

“The Minogues were put on it [Earth] to put glitter and sequins everywhere. I was asking my sister the other day, is it normal when you’re vacuuming that you find sequins and glitter, or is that just an us thing?”

Classic Minogue energy. The Joel Creasey Show airs 1 pm to 2 pm nationally on the Nova Network, and the full interview is available on the Nova Player.
