Avan Jogia Reveals New Pronouns
Avan Jogia is a 30-year-old actor best known for his roles in Nickelodeon’s Victorious series and Now Apocalypse where he plays a gay character. The actor posts semi-regularly on social media and has amassed a loyal fanbase.
In a recent TikTok video, Jogia announced that they now go by the pronouns he/they, reports Instinct.
AVAN JOGIA ANNOUNCED THEIR PRONOUNS IN A VERY GEN Z WAY
Identifying as non-binary is in no way a new phenomenon; the notion of androgyny has been a strong and present part of queer culture for generations with many LGBTQIA+ folks troubling the blurred lines of gender.
What is new, however, is the availability of resources for people to use to understand better how they identify. Using different pronouns from the traditional he/him and she/her is a particularly powerful and succinct way to demonstrate one’s departure from the gender binary.
Avan Jogia’s last TikTok seems to imply that the actor was coming out as non-binary, and although that hasn’t been confirmed he definitely goes by he/they pronouns as evidenced in the pronoun section of their TikTok under the username.
Ironically using a popular TikTok sound calling those who go by different pronouns “mentally ill”, Jogia writes in the caption, “Not that he honestly and if I’m being real? I probably get into that mentally ill stuff…”
Wherever Avan Jogia may be on his journey, we wish them the best in finding their feet and hope this pronoun change aids in discovering more about what makes them feel comfortable.
