The Pillion star’s offhand remark at a film festival is sparking speculation and plenty of thirst.

Alexander Skarsgård might have just let something slip, and fans are absolutely running with it.

During a recent appearance at the Zurich Film Festival, the Swedish actor made a comment that has people wondering if he just casually confirmed he’s been with both men and women. Skarsgård was there promoting Pillion, his new film where he plays a kinky gay biker who starts a dominant-submissive relationship with a shy man named Colin, played by Harry Melling.

What exactly did he say?

When discussing how he approached the role, Skarsgård got refreshingly candid. “I found that in this case, it’s not really relevant what my background is. I mean, I do have a kid, but what I’ve done in the past, who I’ve been with, men, women… To me, what was important was that this felt like an opportunity to tell a story about a subculture I hadn’t seen portrayed this way, with so much authenticity,” he told Variety.

That phrase, “who I’ve been with, men, women,” sent the internet into overdrive.

The internet does what it does best.

Sure, you could interpret his words as simply saying his past doesn’t matter, whether it involved men or women. But where’s the fun in that? Fans are choosing the reading that brings them joy, and honestly, we get it.

“He had too much chemistry with literally everyone in True Blood for him to be straight,” one person wrote on X. Another chimed in: “Yea he BEEN that James Dean/Richard Pryor type sexual. A man who knows he’s that fine is fucking everyone.”

The discourse continued from there, as it tends to do.

There’s more context that fans are loving.

Skarsgård added more fuel to the speculation later in the conversation. He admitted he has “a little bit of experience from that world” of leather culture and pushed back against stereotypes that it’s dark or threatening.

He also shared that when he first read the Pillion script, he worried there’d be some tired twist where his character secretly had a wife. He was relieved that wasn’t the case.

The actor wrapped up by describing a beautiful moment at the festival. “We had a joint after party with a Nigerian film where homosexuality is illegal,” he explained. “It was the first Nigerian film ever to play at Cannes Film Festival, so there were ambassadors and politicians from Nigeria. We had our kinky gay bikers in leather harnesses and Paul in his pup mask. It was pretty beautiful to watch.”

Whether Skarsgård meant to hint at his own experiences or was simply making a broader point about privacy, one thing’s clear. He’s genuinely invested in telling this story with respect and authenticity. And that matters.
