Diplo Jokes He Dated Justin Trudeau As Katy Perry Romance Goes Public
Diplo is playing cheeky again. On a recent episode of Smart Girl Dumb Questions, the Grammy-winning DJ quipped that he had dated both Katy Perry and former Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau.
The gag didn’t stop there. He later posted a selfie with Trudeau and captioned it “the one that got away,” tipping his hat to Perry’s hit The One That Got Away. The podcast’s host has since confirmed the “I dated Trudeau” line was a joke, which is exactly how we’re treating it.
So what did Diplo actually say?
During the podcast, Diplo joked about Canada’s “hot prime minister” and, in the same breath, said, “Oh, I did date Trudeau too,” adding he’s “not into politicians.” The host then clarified in the YouTube comments that the Trudeau claim was a joke. It was classic Diplo: dry, flirty, and designed to set comment sections on fire without pretending it’s real.
Was he being serious?

Days later in Prague, Perry told a fan she was “dating someone else” when he proposed from the crowd. Multiple outlets have reported the pair are an official item and are making time for each other around her Lifetimes Tour dates.
