David Archuleta’s “Crème Brulée” Proves He’s Not So Innocent Anymore

David Archuleta wants everyone to know something important: he’s not that innocent teenager from American Idol anymore. At 34, the singer has released his new single Crème Brulée which shows a more grown-up side to his music.

“Sometimes I think people forget that I’m in my thirties,” Archuleta told People. “I’m older now. I’m more mature.”

The lyrics of Crème Brulée are suggestive. Examples include, “Oh no, there goes all of your clothes / Speaking words you don’t know,” and “I can’t help that you don’t wanna wait / Okay, now you’ve had a taste of crème brulée.”

The song even features the Spanish phrase “Yo te vuelvo loco, loco“, adding a spicy bilingual element that fits with Archuleta’s new direction. (In English. “I’ll make you crazy, crazy.”)

Archuleta mentioned that his new songs have more innuendo. He also said that the songs coming after Crème Brulée will also be a little naughty. He described it as “naughty but nice” and “sweet but savory.”

A Flirty New Era for Archuleta

Archuleta talked to The Hollywood Reporter. He described his new music as “David Archuleta 2.0.” He said he is in his “flirty era.” He is owning his sensuality.

We’ve followed Archuleta’s story since he first spoke about his identity in 2021 when he came out as part of the LGBTQIA+ community. This was a big step for someone who grew up in the Mormon church, which does not accept LGBTQIA+ people.

Family Support Amidst Change

One constant in Archuleta’s life has been his mother’s support. Despite her strong connection to the Mormon faith, she stands by her son.

“Maybe a couple years ago she would’ve been like, ‘How could you sing about that kind of stuff? You should know better being Mormon’,” Archuleta told People about his mother’s reaction to the suggestive new single. “Now, she’s like, ‘Hey, I’m so glad that you’re coming into your own, and you’re figuring yourself out.'”

This support has helped Archuleta feel free to express himself more fully in his music and public life. His new sound marks a fresh start for the singer who first caught our attention with his hit Crush.

The music video for Crème Brulée is available to watch.
