We Are Getting Back Together With Neil Patrick Harris In “Uncoupled” Afterall!
The news broke on January 13, 2023 that Netflix had cancelled Uncoupled starring Neil Patrick Harris. Despite the show having positive reviews and feedback, ratings were not strong enough for the streaming giant to renew the series.
Since then, rival streaming service Showtime has swooped in and saved the show by renewing the series for a second season as part of their new content strategy, reports People.
HOW WILL UNCOUPLED FARE IN THEIR SECOND SEASON
Many were surprised to hear that Netflix would cancel Uncoupled after only one season. The show received positive reviews landing on the Top Ten Watched shows list on the streaming site and has a 73% critic score and 76% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, reports People.
Now with Showtime merging with Paramount+, the service has begun a new content strategy that will mainline programs into three content lanes, reports Deadline. Uncoupled was picked up as part of this new strategy and will be sorted into the Metro Cultures lane.
Speaking to People, Tisha Campbell says, “It was shocking that we were No. 3 [on Netflix US] and we weren’t worldwide and we weren’t picked up. That was shocking. But that’s the business. It just is what it is. I don’t ever take things personally. I loved working for that streaming network.”
There is an expectation that the show will become “edgier” with its new home at Showtime. The service has also picked up The L Word and Fellow Travellers, both LGBTQIA+ themed series.
