Troye Sivan Unleashes At Homophobic Slur
Australian singer Troye Sivan responded to a blind item that made claims about his tour with Charli XCX. The item appeared on Alt. Gossip Celebrities blog. It suggested low ticket sales for their Sweat Tour. It also made personal comments about Sivan’s dating life.
“Straight People Are Getting Way Too Comfortable”
Troye Sivan, the 29-year-old Australian singer-songwriter, didn’t hold back in his response. In a TikTok video, he addressed these claims directly, saying: “Straight people are getting way too comfortable. I released an album. I am touring the album with Charli XCX. We are playing 22 shows across the country that are 95% sold out. The only city where we’re not doing as well is Nashville, and it’s at 78%.”
Sivan continued by calling out the stereotype: “To say that I am touring the country to go on Grindr at every stop, that’s genuinely homophobic. It’s a stereotype. Don’t sex shame me. First of all, I don’t need to travel the country to get laid. I can get laid wherever I want. I can get laid in LA. I’m going on tour because I released an album and people are buying tickets to come see the show.”
This incident shows ongoing issues in media representation. It highlights the need for respectful discourse about public figures. Sivan’s response demonstrates how artists can stand up against harmful stereotypes.
“That’s Still a Slur”
Troye also addressed the language used in the blind item: “If you say twink, where you meant to say f**got, that’s still a slur. That’s like our word. I don’t think straight people should be using that.”
