Tom Daley Dives Into New Campaign To Prevent Alcohol-Related Drownings
Olympic champion Tom Daley has taken on a new challenge just days after announcing his retirement from diving. The 28-year-old has partnered with Malibu Drinks and the Royal Life Saving Society UK (RLSS) to raise awareness about the dangers of drinking and diving.
“I’ve always loved being in the water, but I know it can be dangerous,” Tom said. “I’m proud to work with Malibu and the RLSS to get this message out there: stay safe and don’t drink and dive.”

“One in four drowning deaths in the UK occur as a result of alcohol consumption,” revealed the RLSS. A stone statue reading “1 in 4” stands beside Tom in the photos, emphasising the startling statistic.
Last year alone, 263 people died in accidental water-related deaths in the UK. Despite this, nearly 80% of Gen-Zers believe it’s acceptable to have a drink before swimming, and 60% of Brits admit to having done so.
These alarming figures have prompted Tom and his partners to take action. As part of the campaign, the expert crocheter has released a collection of knitted swimwear items, including swim briefs, sliders, bucket hats, and even knitted sunglasses.
“Stay Safe and Don’t Drink and Dive”
In an accompanying video, Tom is seen walking onto a diving board and removing his robe. As he looks down, the bottom of the pool reads: “1 in 4 UK drownings involve alcohol.”
With his global appeal particularly strong following among the LGBTQIA+ community, Tom’s involvement in this campaign is sure to make an impact.
