Thirst Traps For A Good Cause – Gus Kenworthy’s Epic Bike Ride
Olympian Gus Kenworthy just finished a massive 877km (545 miles in olden day’s measurements) bike ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles. He did it to raise money for HIV and AIDS services, and his efforts show that you can support the community and look good while doing it.
Fashion Meets Fundraising
The annual AIDS/LifeCycle event is a serious physical challenge, but Gus added his own memorable style to the ride. One standout moment saw him tackling the California coastline in a red sports bra with a matching skirt. This wasn’t his first time participating in the ride, but he admitted it felt much harder this time around. “This ride is so much harder than it was when I did it six years ago,” he said, noting he had not been on a road bike in years.
Despite the stunning views, the ride was physically punishing. Gus was joined by teammates Jake Wilson and Seth G, who shared in the struggle. On one particularly gruelling stretch, Wilson joked, “This is in the top three worst days of my life so far.” The exhaustion was real, but so was the sense of accomplishment. Gus summed it up perfectly on his Instagram, writing, “My body is truly broken but my heart feels full.”
The trio’s effort, along with thousands of other riders, made a significant impact. Gus personally helped raise over $100,000 this year. This brings his total fundraising for the event to more than $369,000 over the years. He made sure to thank the large team of volunteers, medics, and roadies who make the event possible, giving them credit for their essential work. It’s this combination of grit and gratitude that really stands out.
