It’s official. The story of Alex Claremont-Diaz and Prince Henry is not over, with a sequel to Prime Video’s hit movie Red, White And Royal Blue now in development. Taylor Zakhar Perez and Nicholas Galitzine are set to return as the transatlantic power couple who captured everyone’s attention back in 2023.

The original film, based on Casey McQuiston’s bestselling book, became an instant favourite after it premièred. It earned an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Television Movie and showed that a smart, heartfelt romance could still top the streaming charts. Now, the team is getting back together to answer the big question: what happens after the fairytale ending?

So, what’s the story this time around?

If the first film was about the thrill of falling in love, the sequel would explore the reality of staying there. Author and co-screenwriter Casey McQuiston confirmed the story focuses on life after the initial rush.

In a recent chat with Yahoo! Entertainment, McQuiston said the film is a look into Alex and Henry’s life “after the confetti has finished falling from the first movie, and you have to move forward together as two adults in a real, serious adult partnership.” They hinted that the plot will show how the couple deals with real-world pressures when personal dreams and public expectations begin to clash.

Writing a new chapter without a book…

This time, the screenwriters are working without a novel to guide them. Returning director Matthew López, who is co-writing the script with McQuiston, admitted this presents a fresh challenge. “There’s no book to guide us,” López said at a recent panel, “but what we have is Casey’s original thoughts and original ideas.” It seems the story will be built from the ground up, straight from the source.

The First Son’s optimism returns.

The original cast is reportedly excited to step back into their roles. Taylor Zakhar Perez, who plays Alex, is ready to bring the character’s signature confidence back to the screen. He noted Alex “just has an endless waterfall of optimism,” adding, “I think with the state of the world right now, we could use a little bit more of that.”

No release date has been announced yet. Rest assured, we’re ready for a story that shows what comes after the credits roll. It’s the next part of the story we’ve been waiting for.
