The Internet Asked If Liza Minnelli’s New EDM Track Was A Deepfake And She Didn’t Hold Back

Liza Minnelli is back on the charts with an electronic dance track, but she wants to make one thing clear: that is really her singing.

The 79-year-old released Kids, Wait Till You Hear This, earlier this week. The single features a heavy, synthesised beat and was dropped on The Eleven Album, a project by AI audio company ElevenLabs. Naturally, the collaboration sparked rumours that the entire song was a deepfake.

Minnelli is a revered LGBTQIA+ favourite due to her glamorous, resilient persona and iconic performances in films like Cabaret. As the daughter of Judy Garland, she inherited a legacy of admiration.

This was solidified by her own unapologetic “survivor” image, dedication to fighting HIV/AIDS, and close ties to fashion icon Halston.

She says the vocals are real.

The association with The Eleven Album AI audio company ElevenLabs has led some listeners to believe the entire song was a “deepfake” or a voice clone.

Liza took to Facebook on January 21 to set the record straight. She confirmed that while AI generated the music arrangements, the voice is 100 per cent hers.

“What I will not allow this great company to do? Create, clone or copy my voice!” she wrote. “On this dance track, Kids, Wait Till You Hear This, which is a tease for my book, we used AI arrangements. Not AI vocals.”

She also addressed the online critics directly.

“A few trolls didn’t bother to read the truth, check with me or my partners. The shout outs are all mine!”

We love a legend who embraces the future.

Liza is trying something different. She described the AI company ElevenLabs as a “six billion dollar techno behemoth” and seems thrilled to be part of the experiment.

The album also features contributions from Art Garfunkel, proving that curiosity does not have an age limit. Liza explained her motivation for the project in a press statement.

“I grew up watching my parents create wonderful dreams that were owned by other people. ElevenLabs makes it possible for anyone to be a creator and owner. That matters.”

The memoir is coming soon.

The new single shares its title with her upcoming memoir, which is scheduled for release on March 10, 2026. The book promises to cover her “fascinating, untold story” from her perspective.

For now, Liza just wants us to dance. As she put it in her post:

“Go listen, enjoy, and shake your pretty buns to the music, as we glide down the runway to send my book into the world and your very own hot hands.”
