The Boyfriend Season 2 Heads North To Hokkaido And Premieres January 2026

The Boyfriend Season 2. (Netflix)

Netflix has confirmed that season two of The Boyfriend, Japan’s first male dating series, will premiere on January 13, 2026. The second season will roll out over four weeks, with 15 episodes released in stages rather than all at once.

Trading the beach for the snow.

The first season gave us a sunny coastal backdrop, but the new episodes are taking us north to Hokkaido. This winter setting changes the dynamic completely. Ten new participants will live together for approximately two months while surrounded by the cold. It offers a cozy atmosphere where connections can develop slowly indoors rather than out on the sand.

We do not know the names of the cast members just yet. Netflix released a first-look image showing only the backs of the ten boys standing with their arms around one another. It hints at the camaraderie we have come to expect from the franchise without giving away who will be capturing our attention next month.

The coffee truck is back in business.

Work remains a central part of the format. The group will operate the peppermint Coffee Truck together again. The shift to a winter climate suggests we might see different challenges in how they run the business compared to the summer days of season one.

Working shifts together was often where the most honest conversations happened in the debut season. It forced the guys to communicate and rely on each other. We expect the snowy conditions will only increase the need for cooperation.

Familiar faces to guide us through.

The hosting panel was a highlight for many viewers last year, and the full lineup is returning. We will see Megumi, Chiaki Horan, Thelma Aoyama, Durian Lollobrigida, and Yoshimi Tokui back in the studio. Their reactions provided context and humour to the situations unfolding in the house, so having the original team back helps maintain the show’s specific tone.

When you can stream the new episodes.

Netflix is sticking to a batch release strategy rather than dropping everything at once. The first six episodes arrive on January 13. The following week, on January 20, we get episodes 7 through 9.

The story continues on January 27 with episodes 10 through 12. Finally, the season concludes with the last three episodes on February 3. It gives us four consecutive weeks of drama and romance to look forward to.
