Straight White Male’s Entitlement Crashes And Burns After Racist And Homophobic Rant
One of the more satisfying parts of the internet is watching, alleged, bigots get their come-ups. In a viral video posted on Reddit and Twitter, a man who worked as a chemical engineer for pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline went on a homophobic rampage believing himself to be above repercussions, reports The Independent. He couldn’t have been more wrong.
I MEAN… AT LEAST HE MADE IT EASY TO CONTACT HIS EMPLOYER
Social media can be a dark space at times; there’s the racism, homophobia and misogyny and the petty fighting between conservatives and progressives. But it can also be beautiful; holding bigots accountable for their actions.
The man pictured in the video was reportedly kicked off his American Airlines flight from Philadelphia to Dallas after harassing the woman in the seat next to him. He exclaims in the video that he was “a little intoxicated” before launching into a tirade about his racism, reports The Independent.
“It’s a black f**king bag,” he says, while retrieving his overhead luggage. “Obviously ‘cause I’m a white man I’m gonna pick the black bag because I’m racist. You’re kicking me off the f**king plane because I’m racist.” The flight attendant pleads with him to collect his belongings and exit the craft, which he begrudgingly obliges before making homophobic insults about the other passengers.
“I’ll get off the f**king plane with you liberal f**gots,” he can be seen saying. “I hope all you liberal f**gots crash the f**king plane, you f**gots.” While leaving he’s heard saying he works as a chemical engineer for GlaxoSmithKline. The internet took it from there.
GOT HIM!
Once GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) discovered the video of one of their engineers going on a rampage, they responded by saying, “We immediately conducted an investigation and as of Thursday, he is no longer employed at GSK. The person’s behaviour was reprehensible and does not reflect our company culture.”
It is baffling that somebody willing to espouse such controversial and confronting behaviour believed they could get away with telling a plane full of people where he worked and still hold that position afterwards.
According to The Independent, GSK provided a statement that says, “At GSK, diversity, equity and inclusion is embraced and celebrated and we are committed in policy, principle and practice to maintaining an environment which prohibits discriminatory behaviour and provides equal opportunity for all persons.”
The unspoken rules for air travel are pretty simple folks; don’t take your shoes off unless necessary, don’t recline the seat during meal times and if you’re going to be kicked off the flight for racist and homophobic abuse, perhaps don’t tell the whole plane where you work.
