Sharon Stone Says Homophobia Is The Cause Of The Kevin Spacey Backlash, Not Assault Allegations

Sharon Stone in Basic Instinct (TriStar Pictures) And Kevin Spacey in The Usual Suspects (Universal Pictures)

Sharon Stone has once again voiced her support for Kevin Spacey. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, she shared her thoughts on the actor’s situation.

“He’s said sorry to everyone he’s upset,” Stone explained. She believes Spacey should be allowed to work again after years of therapy and losing his career.

The Basic Instinct star suggests Spacey’s sexuality might be the real reason he’s been shunned. “No one has publicly said he’s forced them into sex. But there’s so much anger towards him because it was between men. That’s why he can’t come back. Because he upset men,” she said.

This isn’t the first time Stone has backed Spacey. She previously wrote a letter supporting him, along with other actors like Liam Neeson. British actor and author, Stephen Fry has also commented that the accusations “do not add up to crimes”.

Spacey’s career took a hit in 2017 when Star Trek actor Anthony Rapp accused him of assault at a party when Rapp was 14. More accusations followed, leading to trials in the UK and New York. Spacey was found not guilty in both cases.

In a chat with Piers Morgan, Spacey admitted he had touched people “sexually in a way that I didn’t know at the time they didn’t want.”

Stone also shared her own experiences with inappropriate behaviour in the industry. “Can I tell you how many men have grabbed my private parts in my life?” she asked. “A lot more than Kevin Spacey has grabbed men’s private parts. And none of them has ever said sorry to me.”

What do you think? Should Kevin Spacey be given another chance in Hollywood, or are the allegations against him too serious to overlook?
