“Honey started as a bit of playful chaos,” Thorne tells us. “Georgia, my bestie, and I were hanging out… she started humming this melody that instantly lit something up in me, and suddenly we were bouncing off each other with cheeky lines, trying to make each other laugh.”
That playful energy even led them to ask Georgia’s mum for her definition of sex to break through a creative block. The result is a track that captures the electric feeling of locking eyes with someone from across the room, where all the talking is done with a look. As Thorne puts it, the song is “playful on the outside, but soaked in sensual energy underneath.”
This new single marks a clear shift for Thorne, who is leaning into a sound that feels completely his own for the first time. It’s a move that feels both natural and long overdue.
“It feels like the most ‘me’ I’ve ever sounded,” he says. “Like I stopped holding back and just let it all out.”
Citing influences from the golden era of R and B like Destiny’s Child, Ne-Yo, and TLC, Thorne explains that Honey is his gateway to expressing a new side of his art. “It marks a shift toward more confidence, more sensuality, and more playfulness in my sound. “Growing up, I didn’t see many people who looked like me, sounded like me, or loved like me on screen or stage,” he says. “Now that I’m older… I get to be the person I needed to see back then, for someone else.”
He wants the video’s open celebration of queer joy and sensuality to show younger people that they deserve to take up space. “We get to be sexy, silly, soft, and powerful, and sometimes all of that at once.” He hopes they see it and know they can be fully themselves.
